Word from the Commander:

It has been a great and beautiful year with you all in Group Moses,
Again in every end it is always a bittersweet moment, throws me into a confused state of being glad and reluctant at the same time.

I am sad that it has to end, but it is for the best of God's interest to see everyone grow up spiritually and mature, to be complete lacking in nothing. I'm on the other hand very happy too, because in this one year i have gained much from all of you. You all have taught me many things in this year. But more importantly is that all of you have grown. I want to thank all of you for all your effort. The blood, sweat and tears! From just being there in the group to helping us out in all the task be it Olympics, Bible quiz, Camp!, Amazing Race! Petra can Wok! MTV and all those.
Continue your good work and keep it up!

I bid all of you to continue to serve the Lord in your coming years wherever God place you.

Always remember the Lord in all your days.
Serve him with all your life.

This week for P1 we're putting up an interesting documentary of 5 young men on their lives, their mission and God showed how much we can go with one small step of faith.

Okay! Here goes.
This Saturday P2 we'll be having
"SHOW YOUR COLORS"

There will be 3 categories: Mind, Sound Effect, Voice Over.
Mime Category: Audio will be put up. After listening to it and when the audio is being put up for the second time, we have to act as close as to the sound.
Sound Effect Category: Most of the scenes are action-based. The judges will judge based on the effect of the sound, little will be judged on the conversation.
Voice Over Category: With movie clips. Based on your creativity of the dialogue.

*For both Mime and Sound Effect Category, will be judged on closest & creativity(interesting of the dialogue).

Suba (Irene's friend) and Annie (Weng Cheong's friend) had join us for the Gp Meeting hope they enjoyed the whole Saturday program as we did enjoy their presence with us!
We found budding cooks as well, while the rest were trying to find out who is the werewolf, Kar Weng, Jeremiah, Bernard and Belinda joined me outside at the BBQ! and my they can really cook!

The past 5 days 4 nights had really been great!

This year, in order to help out with funds for those in need,
we're starting this "Recycle la!" campaign.

So, here is what you can do to contribute:
1) Collect old newspapers and stack them up nicely.
2) Collect aluminum tin cans (eg. coke cans etc.), crush them and place in a box or plastic bags.

Once you've collected a certain amount, you can bring them to us and we'll sell them for the fund raising! So easy! So "Recycle la!"

Hello Mosesians! (I hope there's such a thing.)

Okayyy... after all those tiring weeks of Petra-lympics and Amazing Race, this week; all of us deserve a good break from the sports and games. We are going to a very high place that overlooks the city for a makan time @ Bukit Saga lookout point!

Its about 15-20 minutes drive from Petra. Located at Banjaran Titiwangsa and I have been told that the food is priced reasonably well. A meal costs under RM10. Choices of food from the usual goreng food and even to western dishes! Wow! Sounds great eh. But thats just P2.

During P1 we're having Group Gideon for their presentation. I think there will be some animation too! Hmn... something new :).

So remember to come prepared for this Saturday's activities!

Group Moses!

It was great! We got 2nd overall!

You guys did great! It was the first big PYP event of the year: all were baked in the sun, clothed in their group colors, yelling and cheering for their groups! We've seriously taken it to the next step. All the new faces were joining in to have some fun!

Here's how we fared:

Track events:
- Marathon (Ben) 3rd, (Anne) 1st - salute!
- 100m, 100m Hurdles, 4 x 100m (Jason, Jocelyn, Bernard, Amelia, Bee Wan, John Lian, Tiong Shen, Joey, Jane, Kar En).

Captainball Team (Girls)
- 3 straight wins! Canggih!
- [vs Joshua, 6 - 0] [vs Gideon, 7 - 5] [vs Samuel, 6 - 5]

Futsal (Boys):
- 1 win, 1 draw, 1 give chance! Not too bad.

We even had the young ones like Jeremiah, Derrick & Renny joining in, and the boys from Glo too! Hope we can have a friendly match one day! The uncles too; like Barry and Jason who forsake their aging bones and took on the other groups thinking they were still 18! Hahahahaha!

Cheerleading:
- Dance team made it 3rd, not bad for a week of practice! Push it to the LIMIT!

For those first timers, I hope this will inspire you even more to join in next year's group cheerleading!

Olympics 2008

OLYMPICS IS THIS SATURDAY!

We'll be having our annual OLYMPICS this very Saturday and there will lots of activities! Mainly there's the cheerleading, but there will also be a marathon, racing, ball games and more!

REMEMBER to dress yourself up in a sporty attire and wear comfy shoes. Don't forget to bring mineral water, a cap if necessary, towel or hanky for the sweaty parts and yourself!

A reminder for CHEERLEADING participants, we will be wearing our group shirt and jeans. We will also be having a practise Friday night and Saturday morning.

Please do inform the leaders if you need transport!

Through Heaven's Eyes

In the midst of celebrations and events, we should refresh ourselves by taking a break and dine on a little food for the soul. The name of our group, Moses, is the name of a prophet of God in the book of Exodus. His story has been retold many times and one of the more popular movies depicting his life is The Prince of Egypt (we've watched it during one of our group meetings!). Here's a short video in The Prince of Egypt:

CNY Lou Sang

The pictures are finally up for the Lou Sang event during CNY! We've had fun making our own Moses custom Lou Sang. We were given a budget of RM15 to create a specialized dish. And here's what we did!

Exodus Lou Sang for Dummies

Step 1: Crush the biscuits, add additional snacks then scatter across the plate to form a desert.

Step 2: Don't forget to add some decor! For example, we made a biscuit version of the pillar of cloud and pillar of fire. Used by God to lead the Israelites in the desert.

Step 3: Mix up a few packets of Milo powder in a single cup and stir until well mixed. A good measure of thumb to find out if you're done is when you look at it, your throat feels dry.

Step 4: Raise your chopsticks, get ready the Milo sauce and GO! Completely demolish Egypt and turn the desert upside down, while pouring the sauce on it.

Step 5: Tada! The Exodus Lou Sang is done! The only thing left to do now is to DIG IN!

Step 6: Plate licking good!

Who Is Moses? (NIV)

The story of Moses began with the sons of Jacob, who settled down in Egypt because Joseph was a man favoured by the Pharoah (Gen 41:41-57). According to Exodus 1:6-9...

"Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died, but the Israelites were fruitful and multiplied greatly and became exceedingly numerous, so that the land was filled with them. Then a new king, who did not know about Joseph, came to power in Egypt. "Look," he said to his people, "the Israelites have become too numerous for us."

Hence, a massacre was launched by the Pharoah. Every male Hebrew baby must be thrown into the Nile. However, a woman named Jochebed gave birth to a son named Moses and sent him afloat on the river to save his life. He eventually ended up in the hands of the Pharoah's daughter (Ex 2:1-10).

Moses grew up as a royal Egyptian. One day, he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew. He killed the Egyptian (Ex 2:11-12). Moses fled from Egypt and went to live in Midian after he rescued the priest's daughters (Ex 2:19). He then married one of the daughters, Zipporah. Meanwhile, his people were suffering in slavery and cried out to God.

One day, when he was tending the flock, he saw a burning bush (Ex 3:2-3). God called to him from within and sent him to Pharoah to bring the Israelites out of Egypt. He took the staff that God had given him and went back to Egypt. Moses performed many miracles there, like turning a staff into a snake (Ex 7:10) and turning the Nile into a river of blood (Ex 7:20).

The Pharoah resisted from releasing God's people and Moses called down to Egypt the ten plagues which are: the plague of blood, frogs, gnats, flies, livestock, boils, hail, locusts, darkness and firstborn (Ex 7:14 - 11:10). At last, the people were released from bondage and Moses led them out into the desert. But the Pharoah changed his mind and pursued them while they were camped by the sea. God through Moses opened up the Red Sea (Ex 14:21-22) and the Israelites crossed safely.

God provided the people manna and quail everyday. He also provided water, from the rock (Ex 17:5-6). At Mount Sinai, God called Moses up to give to His people the Ten Commandments (Ex 20:1-17) and also many other instructions by which they should live. But when the people grew impatient since Moses took a long time to come down, they built themselves an idol, a golden calf (Ex 32:2-4).

God was angry with them and punished them to wandering the desert for 40 years (Num 32:13). During that period of time, they complained frequently and rebeled against God. Moses was asked to speak to the rock to provide water to the people, but in his anger he struck the rock instead (Num 20: 8 & 11). Due to that, God did not allow Moses to enter the promised land (Num 20:12).

Moses continued to lead God's people until they entered the promised land. He died on Mount Nebo, along with Aaron (Deut 32:48-52).

Puzzle.

Puzzle of the heart? Puzzle of life? Puzzle of love?

That's what life mostly is, isn't it? Putting in the pieces. Along the way, we'll finally fit in a few and there's that temporary contentment. Soon, it runs out. We are never satisfied. We never settle down. We get frustrated and confused. Why am I feeling so empty?

Like an empty paper, we fill our life with colours. We try everything - ranging from partners, partying, money and more. We do all that, picking up the pieces life has to offer and stick it on, hoping it fits. But eventually it all comes down to nothing. There's still that little bit of emptiness.

Maybe you've tried everything, but have you tried God?

"For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him." - Colossians 1:16 (NIV)

GOD created us. He made us in his image. Even if man invented computers, it has a purpose. Surely God created us for a purpose! In God, life has a meaning!

You'll ask, "What makes you say that?".

Well, let's start from the beginning, shall we?

Adam and Eve were the first two humans on Earth. God made them and put them in Eden. It was paradise! Man didn't need to work for food or crave luxury. Everything was there, ready and provided for. God really made that place perfect for humans to live in, ETERNALLY.

Yes. God created us to live forever.

That was where sin came in. Sin means to defy or disobey God. And that's what Adam and Eve did exactly (the full story is in the Bible, book of Genesis). God had no choice but to throw them out of Eden. From then on, humans are ridden with sin. It's in our very flesh. Sin lives in us.

Think about it, have you ever found it hard not to be resentful? But have you ever found it easy to forgive and forget?

Heaven is a perfect place, and God is a perfect God. There is not a single speck of imperfection in heaven or in God. Therefore, we humans who are not perfect, cannot enter heaven nor can we be in the presence of God. No one is perfect, aye? So if there is imperfection in heaven, how can heaven be perfect? An imperfect heaven is not heaven.

By God's standard, even a little wrong makes us undeserving of heaven. We must be 100% good to qualify! The reason why we accept the society's mindset of good is because the bar has been lowered. Like in major exams, if everyone failed, wouldn't the passing mark be lowered?

We are also not allowed into heaven because of justice. God cannot leave our sins unpunished. A God without justice. What kind of God is that?

So, at this point of the post, we can conclude that all of us are doomed forever.

Ah... But. There is always a but.

Then came, JESUS CHRIST.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16 (NIV)

"For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born." - Paul, 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 (NIV)

God came down in the flesh as Jesus Christ, fully God and fully human. He chose not to use his rights as God but instead lived as a human, open to the temptations and trials of human life. He went through life as a sinless man and then, he sacrificed himself as prophecied thousands of years ago.

He was sacrificed on the cross. A sinless man was punished for a sin that was not his own, but the sin of the world. He was punished for us. Heaven is no longer impossible, because Christ died in our place.

Justice was fulfilled.

Now Christ offers his hand to us. If we believe in Him, God is willing to tear our book of life, full of sins, and fling it into the deepest oceans. Never again will He set eyes on it. He will welcome us into his arms and embrace us, forever.

There is only two things to do at this point, to believe or not to believe?

God died in our place and was punished for us. Though it costed him a hefty price, he offers the gift of salvation to us for free! There is nothing we can do to buy such a thing. It is - priceless.

If you are ready to receive Christ into your life, there's only a simple prayer.

"Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I do not deserve eternal life. But, I believe You died and rose from the grave to purchase a place in Heaven for me. Jesus, come into my life, take control of my life, forgive my sins and save me. I am now placing my trust in You alone for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life. Amen."
